Congress should live like the least of us. That is, Congress should live on the safety net provisions of the law such as public housing and food stamps. If those provisions are good enough for millions of children they are good enough for Congress. There's plenty of public housing in D.C. They can walk to work or take the bus. They can also get their medical care without health insurance.

Indeed, Denise.. And there's only a shallow handful of tower dwellers that genuinely care. I hope folks are beginning to wise up and beginning to realize who they are and how hard they are fighting for we the people...

It really is disgusting and despicable......Not one person in Congress has any kind of idea how the "average citizen" lives...........no conception.......seems like none of them care, either.

They continue to get away with it, Jules..... Mainly because the average citizen today has chooses to be willfully ignorant of their government's actions and how those actions if the Lord tarries, will affect them, their children and grandchildren...

When this country was first formed. The Continental Congress worked for free. We will never see thaqt again. All comgressmen receive brides in the form of donations to vote in favor of the cpmpany giving the donations. This is monies over what they get paid.

Better yet, we should all live like Congress. That being impossible, I suggest we reduce their salary to the new minimum wage Obama is pushing and require them to punch a time clock to be paid. Each can be given a tax credit with which to purchase insurance, as they've suggested we should do. Raises can be voted on by constituents if and when they are merited.

The dental plan for congressional families pays 100% for braces and cosmetic dentistry as well as all dental care. Student loans to congressmen's children need not be repaid. In addition to the top of line medical insurance choices, there is a fully-equipped infirmary in the Capitol, complete with Ct scanner and MRI. It's got to be the only job in the world where employees are so richly compensated for failing to meet the directives of their jobs.

I think ALL government should live like average everyday citizens. Normal salaries & put the extra funding leftover towards paying off the huge debts this country has instead of making our governments wallets fat. Normal medical insurance like most of us have should be what they have, any loans must be paid for like normal people. Basically everything should be on a middle class citizen average in the government. The majority of America is hard working blue collar workers who are simply trying to make ends meet enough to pay the utility bills, keep a car running so they have transportation to/from work & grocery stores etc, & still feed their family, what's good for us ought to be good enough for the government.

I'm with Ashley. All government PUBLIC SERVANTS should be paid just a bit lower than they would make in the real world with benefits just a bit better. That's the way it used to be. And if they want pensions, they should have to contribute most of the money for those pensions.
