I Need a New Mattress

So, my mattress is about 10 years old, and its in BAD shape.

I have springs poking out of the mattress on both sides now.  And holes all in the fabric.  I've actually cut myself more than one time on the springs.  It's horrible.

I have also been sleeping on this mattress on the floor.  My bed frame broke years ago, and we have not been able to afford a new one.

Well, hubby found a platform bed at a GREAT price (under $100) on amazon, so we bought that.  The only thing is..the bed was a full sized platform bed.  My mattress is a queen size.

Today we FINALLY put the platform together, and of course my horrible mattress is too big for the new bed.

Now, even more than ever, I need a new mattress.

But mattresses, like everything else in the world, costs way more than I have in my budget.  And a mattress, much like underwear, is nothing something I'm willing to buy thrift/used.

So, now I'm trying to brainstorm a way to earn $300 to $400 to buy a mattress.

Any ideas?

i have no idea mine is older then that i need a new one too but don't have the money i am paying for a car maybe when that is done

wow I go threw a lot of Matteress, regular and waterbed. My new waterbed matteress is in a box and the outside looks like a regular matteress so it has lasted the longest for me.

Sorry Winona, wish I could help. There are usually good deals to be had on mattresses but why not be cheeky and write to a local mattress store and in exchange for a really good deal offer to Tweet about how good the store is, or if you have a Blog tell them you'll run an advert for them free of charge or even on Gather.com. Say you'll take a picture of it in place and say you get the best deals at Joey's Mattresses. Other than that all I can suggest is what you call a garage sale or a sponsored silence or something.

Consider an all foam mattress. I've never used anything else. I love them.

Our mattress turns 20 this year! I wouldn't want a used mattress either. Just have to shop around and see what you can find. Good luck.

I've never bought a new mattress (my mom got a new one while I was away at college since she used my bed due to my dads snoring sometimes lol). Hope you can find the funds for a new one. Maybe even check a thrift store?

I think David/s idea is a good one. I usually look around for sales. I bought my daughter a full size mattress and boxspring for under $200 from a furniture store. Sometimes they are cheaper there because they don't carry or sell many of them since most people go to actual mattress stores

When I worked at Holiday Inn they changed out mattresses fairly often and the ones they took out of the rooms were very clean and in good condition. No wet circles are anything on them and they had been sanitized.. They sold them to individuals for like $25:00 to $50:00 and that included the box springs. When consider the times you have slept in a motel or hotel there is really no difference in getting a mattress from them.If still in doubt you can always buy a vinyl mattress cover.

I have the same problem with my mattress. I covered those nasty springs with a thick mattress pad. It gets holes and tears in it, but it is cheaper to replace than a mattress.

If you have a Big Lots nearby they will put them on layaway for you!
